03/06/2006 COVEY, GILBERT (GIL) L. - Gilbert (Gil) L. Covey of Saint John in his 80th year, died at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Lunenburg, N.S. he was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth (Betty) (Pledge) Covey. Gil was a son of the late Lester and Abagail (Nogler) Covey. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Canadian Army. He was a resident of Saint John since 1959 and was a pipe fitter by trade and a long time member of Local 213 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union. Gilbert was an avid Salmon fisherman and fly tyier and he also fished lobster with his son-in-law. He was a great lover of nature and spent many hours in the outdoors. He is survived by two daughters: Judith Yorke (Bobby) of Grand Bay - Westfield and Valerie Mawhinney (Matthew) of Chance Harbour; brother Spurgeon Covey (Bea) of Halifax, N.S.; sister Jean Jennings (Milton) and sister-in-law Audrey Covey, both of Lunenburg N.S.; grandson Alexander Mawhinney and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Larry Covey. Resting at the A.W. Cavanagh Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 91 Lienster St (634-1712) from where the funeral will be held from the chapel on Wednesday with service at 1:00 pm.
